| The agro-industrial unit A diversified agro-industrial output : The centre is presently farming an area of 52 hectares covered with 30.000 forest trees, 1.400 olive-trees, 900 almond-trees and 2.000 other fruit trees ( apricots, prunes, walnuts, peaches, figs, quinces…). It produces and markets fruit and vegetables ( asparagus, leek, tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, artichokes…) lucerne as well as olive oil ( approx. 1.500 liters a year). French vines on syrian ground : For the last ten years the centre was producing wine from syrian vines. Thanks to the import of 20.000 french vines since 2002, the first harvest of french–type grapes was achieved in 2003. Accordingly the bottling of this first vintage is contemplated by the end of 2004 ( an estimate of 300 bottles). The erection of a larger wine-cellar is projected in order to cope with the increased production. Projected experimentations : Three projected experiments are being implemented under the supervision of a belgian consultant : . growing new specie : In 2004 asparagus has been successfully produced, for the first time in Syria ; . horticulture . a mini zoo .  |
